Our Article on Impregnated Willow Wood Chips Published in Wood Research

We are excited to share some fantastic news from the SoilLifeBoats project! Our scientific article on impregnated willow wood chips (Salix viminalis L.), one of the core technologies promoted within our LIFE project, has been officially published in Wood Research — a well-recognized international scientific journal in the field of wood science and technology. The article is the result of a fruitful collaboration between our project team and scientists from Finland, a partnership that began during the LIFE Platform Meeting on Soils. This connection has not only enriched our research but also opened new opportunities for cross-border scientific exchange.

The publication presents:

  • The key properties of the impregnated willow wood sticks,
  • The production process, including the impregnation with NPK mineral fertilizers,
  • And their potential as an organic-mineral soil amendment to enhance soil health and fertility.

This is a significant step in validating our work and promoting the scientific credibility of the technologies we are developing and testing across Europe. The publication strengthens the evidence base for applying bio-based, circular innovations in agriculture and forestry.

We are proud to contribute to the scientific community and to share our findings with fellow researchers, practitioners, and policymakers. Special thanks to our Finnish colleagues for their dedication and partnership in bringing this article to life! Stay tuned — more results are on the way as our project continues to grow
